The Mingei (Folk Crafts) Movement helped shape modern Japanese design, emphasizing the pursuit of practical beauty as well as the universal appeal of everyday craftwork design. Still prevalent in contemporary Japanese design, these approaches also inspired the design of the Press Pendant, in which glass tubes are pressed as if they have been pinched and the light source is fit into the narrowed space. It need not rely on a metal form; the compression of its glass produces a soft, organic form and imbues each lamp with a singular appearance.
