Beautiful Inside and Out

Modern, airy Tribeca lof with Cliff Young

When outdoor living is such a challenge in New York City, creating a living environment that links the indoor /outdoor living as beautifully and organically as this Tribeca loft deserves celebration.

A gut renovation gave this  Tribeca loft an airy modern  edge and re-invented the functionality of every room for maximum comfort.   From the entrance to the roof-top garden, the design elements of each room come together in a well thought flow and harmony.   The play of materials, finishes and textures that Stephanie Waltbillig, the designer on the project, employs throughout the loft, helps define each room and enhances the spaciousness and the flow.  The furniture layout looks minimal but it is incredibly rich in the design of each piece and the selection of fabrics and other materials.

The entrance is simple and minimal, but each piece makes a strong statement, instilling a zen modern feel for the whole apartment.  Brass paired with a raw, live-edge wood slab, a classy, tailored console in a hand-rubbed finish and antique bronze glass start setting the tone for a luxurious and fun symphony of materials throughout the apartment.

In the living room, the designer brings together pieces from Holly Hunt, Vladimir Kagan and custom designs from Cliff Young to create a soft modern mood and comfort.  Woods range from soft smooth finishes to slabs and beams.  Metal goes from industrial to sculptural perfection.  Glass and stone complement the design with depth and texture.  The beautiful bronze finish on doors and on the fireplace wall balances beautifully the soft coolness of the wood floors and the rustic appeal of the beams.

The client's art collection graces each room of the apartment and gorgeous wood finishing and material combinations make each furniture piece artistic destinations by themselves.

A perforated metal wall defines the home office space, again balanced by the exquisite walnut and detailing of a desk with bronze legs.  The industrial metal staircase leading to a loft area and further up to the roof top garden gives a grand vertical dimension to the open floorplan of the loft center, grounded by the dining area, with the open kitchen on one side and den on the other, while transitioning towards the bedrooms area.

Each of the three bedrooms set a different mood: the custom bed in the master bedroom, with a raw but warm slab headboard and sophisticated nightstands with snakeskin fronts sets a serene, restful mood and is unexpectedly paired with a classic back-and-white color scheme that adds to its classy simplicity.

In the other two bedrooms, sophisticated window treatments complete the perfect mood for each room, whether adding drama or a romantic, serene feel.

A perforated metal wall defines an airy enclosure for the home office space, again balanced by the exquisite walnut and detailing of a desk with bronze legs. More antique bronze prevails in the upstairs loft area, where the bronze framed Design Classic chairs by Milo Baughmann define a minimalist zen conversation area around a bronze and petrified wood custom table.

Last but not least, the roof top garden continues the zen mood outdoors, creating a peaceful haven in the midst of the City.  The wood flooring and siding bring a beach feel, enhanced by the choice of plants and greenery throughout the garden area.
